Let’s get to know visiting textile artist and maker Kristen Gula of Gulush Threads. We’ll have a few treats for nibbling and drinks for sipping and Kristen will be on hand to chat all about her work and life as a textile artist while relaxing in-between her embroidery workshops. She’ll have some of her books available for purchase and signing as well as a small collection of her finished pieces on display (for oohing/ahhing or buying). We’ll also have the good day shop retail area softly open for perusing and shopping some of the new goods we’re curating.
Come on over & create some community around embroidery with us!
Kristen is a self-taught fiber artist from St. Louis, MO who took her love for hand embroidery to the next level by founding Gulush Threads in 2013.
Botanicals, mostly florals, are the main focus in her work as she takes a modern twist to the age-old medium. She lives by the motto of ‘creating more with less’ by painting with thread instead of using an encyclopedia of stitches. Although she is mostly known for her hand embroidery floral work, she has been known to dabble in needle felting and punch needle (and loves incorporating all of them together)!
In 2016, Kristen began teaching hand embroidery to the masses and has traveled all across the US (and even Canada) to share the art of Modern Floral Embroidery with anyone willing to pick up a needle.
She has even found ways to teach those across the world with the publishing of her first book 200 Embroidered Flowers (which you can find online and in stores) as well as launching her Youtube Channel this year!
She resides with her two children, three chickens, and husband Danny - spending most of her time hustlin’ (needle in hand). She enjoys sharing her passion for design with others all while raising her two little ones as a working stay-at-home-mom!
